tally-ho!
Wondering what the tally ended with in regards to our winter wonderland ladies’ trip? If you need a refresher, review the itineraries on the blog post first.
I agree with 12th Tribe!
This year I want to travel. I also want to meet you in the middle or travel big with you. Let’s figure something out and get it on our calendars asap!
Yeah, I’ve been wondering too. One vote for Dillon next to my vote for letting the best option win so far. That’s ok. I know how hard it can be to plan time off from work, coordinate with family and figure out who takes care of the responsibilities while away, where trips for the year fit into a schedule, and all that jazz. I, too, am currently struggling with figuring life and my schedule out. At least I’m getting closer by being able to schedule in advance for an entire season, right?
Ok, I’ll also be honest: I considered throwing in another location for the planning. Face palm. I know. I simply can’t help myself from dreaming big. After driving through Ennis, Montana on the way home from Idaho, I thought of how many adventure await us there, including Norris Hot Springs and peaceful quiet spots. Then I thought, “Let’s save it for summer.” You have been warned.
However, for our ladies winter adventure trip (should I be capitalizing that title or TMing it or something? Feels special. And sassy. Just like us. ;-) I am leaning towards either the first or third weekend of February. The dates of the first weekend starts with Friday, 2/6 and ends with Sunday, 2/8 and the third weekend dates contain Friday, 2/20 - Sunday, 2/22. Let’s also look a bit more specifically at what locations still have availability.
Although both hot springs resorts are completely booked for both the weekends I recommended, there are plenty of other options from what I previously listed and other cabins noted on the Visit Dillon website. We can still stop by the hot springs for a soak after our day of adventure. The difficult decision becomes whether to book a cabin out by the Big Hole River or comfy hotel in town.
Oh! And a quick reminder of the rundown on activity options: downhill skiing at Maverick Mountain, perusing books and Patagonia Outlet deals, historical hikes, hot springs soaks, and snowshoe or xc adventures. There’s more but we will start there. Apparently, Maverick is getting all the snow this year and claiming it’s their best snow year ever. Maybe it’s time to explore where the snow moved to since it refuses to come to us these days? Thoughts?
As for the choice of Thermopolis, availability in the hotels seems to not be a concerning feature for either weekend dates I proposed. Although this area remains drier and generally less snowy, we could still find ourselves xc skiing or snowshoeing nearby. Or we could focus on soaking and exploring the shops and eateries in town. Actually, I know myself well and I know I will advocate for some museum explorations. Does that entice or deter you? i.e. dinosaurs!
Maybe you noticed that I nixed West Yellowstone from the lineup? Since I’ve been there on multiple occasions, I’m whittling down to two options hoping it helps the decision-making process be a bit more seamless. I’m always up for a last-minute request though so here’s your chance! Let me know which dates are most suitable for you and which locale is most enticing. What ever spot will our final tally resolve into?!
