unexpected sunshine
The forecast called for a cozy, rainy weekend. I responded happily by planning to curl up to read all afternoon in a new to me coffee shop. What transpired? Sunshine.
I prepared for a cozy afternoon by tugging on Wellies and packing my current book group read to tuck into at the Coffee Cabin in Fishtail, MT. Along the drive over the sun popped out from behind the clouds. The clouds lifted. The views astounded me as they usually do on that drive. I arrived excited to try an iced concoction and find a trail to meander along.
I opted for a clean Flannel Shirt Chai but will definitely return soon for a dirty Flannel Shirt rendition. Although the property sits directly on the West Rosebud Creek, offering prime Adirondack seating in the sunshine, my boots wanted to get a bit muddy. So I walked up the dirt road along the creek to the fishing access area. Along the way I took pics of the gorgeous changing leaves, a snake, and the sunshine glinting beautifully on the water.
After playing with camera angles and lighting and taking way too many pictures than the moment warranted, I skipped a few stones across the creek. Then, I finally settled down and read a few chapters while sunning on the rocks. When the clouds returned, I called the day and headed home to get a few housework tasks done and prep for my week.
I hope you enjoy this compilation of my play time of capturing the experience!
I wrote about this last year extensively so I’ll keep it short this time around: I struggle with the loss of summer. I love fall and all it brings, gives, holds but the stress of beginning another school year overrides the sentiments the season invokes. Anyway, stolen moments like the one I experienced this afternoon help.
Bright and light. Time away from the heaviness of working and teaching and feeling the pull to get more tasks completed rather than shrugging it off to go play in the heat. More business, less fun. That’s what fall has become for me. Less time to enjoy life.
Maybe this year that will change though. At least I aim for it to. And this little date with myself was a strong start in that direction. Here’s to all of us figuring out how to steal moments like this for adding joy to our lives. Whatever that looks like for you. Happy Fall Y’all! 🍂
