Sarah hikes along East Rosebud Creek on Memorial Day 2025

A Hike, duh

roiling creek with stunning mountain backdrop

East Rosebud Creek below the Absarokas

Exploring the East Rosebud Creek area is a must when you visit. The views and the vibes will awe and inspire you. This particular trek happened on a stellar bluebird day, sunny with a slight breeze. How could we not stop for a million pictures?

Wildflowers dazzled us as much as the canyon walls and roar of cascades below us. Meandering through a forest and along open riverbed soothed our souls and set our day. Even better, I only rushed us along a little bit to ensure we made it to the pig races in time.

The what?! Yup, you read that right. We had a deadline to watch some little piglets run a track at the Bearcreek Saloon. After our steak dinners of course. One thing I know about taking people on hikes is how to fill their aprés hike appetites.

OK, but also a tour…

A tour like none other. Opening weekend on the Beartooth Scenic Byway delights and enthralls passengers with noses pressed to windows. Then, causes them to pull back suddenly shocked by the staggering height of snowbanks on either side of the road. Each stop along the byway offers scenery from on top of the world. A ski lift, ice covered lakes, a massive waterfall, and more all encompassed by hairpin turns gaining to a mere elevation of 10,947 feet.

Dina, Sarah, and I enjoyed all the views and took our time meandering towards lunch in Cooke City. We returned via Chief Joseph Scenic Byway into Cody for an extra turn of jaw dropping views. A little bit of shopping and some well appointed jokes.

…and lots of shenanigans

A day of walking through town, a day of hiking outdoors, and a day of riding around observing it all is precisely what we all needed. A break from our daily grind. Lots of laughter. Taste testing new mocktails. Winding down our evenings tucked in around a fire and beginning our days faces to the sun. Stylin’ and profilin’ through it all. We know what we won’t tell the others. Or you. ;-)

you’ve been thinking about the Pig races this whole time

In case your wondering, my pig came in dead last. DFL in trail running lingo. However, Dina’s was in first until the final turn. If only there had not been a turn. Gahhh! What a fun experience and a lovely, warm night in which to enjoy the revelry!

Finally going home exhausted

Quote on window display reads "May your heart be brave your mind fierce and and your spirit free

The truth is I exhausted myself. Completely worth it! Thank you to Sarah and Dina for coming out to explore with me. You have no idea how much it lifted my spirits and bolstered my soul. One of my favorite things consists of adventuring with friends. We knocked it out above and beyond expectations too!

I’m deeply grateful for the chance to show you my little slice of paradise while you cleverly made me laugh or offered sage advice or simply stood still beside me taking it all in. Those memories will forever float through my heart.
